What is an AI creator video?

A presenter-style short video generated from a product's own photos — built to look like organic creator content, not a template with music over it. Here's what that means in practice.

The short definition

An AI creator video (also called an AI UGC video) is short-form video generated by AI to look like the kind of presenter-to-camera content a creator would film themselves — a person talking about or showing a product — except no one filmed it. It's built from photos the merchant already has, not stock footage and not a human on camera. The point is to produce the format that TikTok's and Instagram's algorithms distribute, without needing a person to film it every day.

How it differs from a template video

Most "auto-generated video" in social-posting tools is a template video: product photos placed in a slideshow, with pan-and-zoom motion, a music bed and maybe animated text. It's easy to produce and it's obviously automated the moment you watch it — closer to a slideshow than to content a person would scroll past without noticing.

An AI creator video is a different thing entirely: a generated presenter-style clip, built to look like a person made it. It's the difference between an ad and something that reads as organic — which is also, not coincidentally, the difference in how the platforms rank each one.

Where it comes from

The product photos already in the Shopify catalogue are the input — nothing is filmed, and no one has to appear on camera. The output is a short video built around the real product, with a caption written from its actual title, description and price rather than a generic template sentence.

Why it gets distributed and a photo doesn't

TikTok's and Instagram Reels' ranking is built around watch time on short video. A static catalogue photo has none — there's nothing to watch. That's the entire reason "just post the product photo" quietly stops working for most stores within a few weeks: the algorithm isn't ignoring the store, it's ignoring the format.

What you still control

Generated doesn't mean unsupervised. Every AI creator video is produced ahead of time and sits in a calendar before it goes anywhere — the caption can be edited, the time can be moved, and the post can be cancelled before it publishes.

Where to get one

Magik generates AI creator videos from a store's own product photos and posts them to TikTok, Instagram and Facebook on a schedule. It's available on the Standard plan and above — see pricing or read the TikTok and Instagram posting guides.
